HA&L Biographical SketchPeter Stevens (1963 - 2015)Our friend and colleague Peter Stevens studied Graphic Design at Sheridan College, followed by advanced photography courses at Zone VI in Vermont. He had solo and group exhibitions at b contemporary gallery, Bryan Prince Bookseller, Transit Gallery, the Hammer Gallery, Broadway Gallery, Gallery 4, Photo Union Gallery, and Grimsby Public Art Gallery. Peter collaborated on many projects throughout the last 25 years with numerous visual and performing artists in and beyond the Hamilton area. A particularly satisfying collaboration was a video response to Endre Szkárosi’s poem KASSAK in Hamilton Arts & Letters issue four.2. Founding Art Director for the magazine Hamilton Arts & Letters / Samizdat Press. Past Photo Editor for Broadway Magazine, past coordinator for the Wordsmith Gallery, and past Board Member of the Photo Union Gallery. Peter and his wife, Hamilton based artist Vesna Trkulja-Stevens, made a beautiful life together. We dearly miss him: his huge brain, his huge talent, his wicked sense of humour, generosity, and fantastic imagination. In 2022 Peter's work was on view in a large group exhibition at the Art Gallery of Hamilton: The Bigger Picture: Art in Hamilton 1950-2000.
