HA&L Biographical SketchEvelyna Ekoko-Kay
Evelyna Ekoko-Kay is a queer, AuDHD, Black-mixed activist and poet from Hamilton, Ontario. The child of activist parents, she grew up attending protests and engaging in other forms of resistance, including the multi-year effort to protect the Red Hill Valley from being bulldozed to make way for the Red Hill Expressway. Evelyna holds an MFA in poetry from the University of Guelph. Her writing has been featured in The Ex-Puritan, Held Magazine, Midnight Sun Magazine, Biblioasis’ Best Canadian Poetry 2023, and Book*hug’s Write Across Canada: An Anthology of Emerging Writers. Currently, she lives in Hamilton with her fiancée, Rachel, with whom she shares custody of three beautiful, terrible cats.
