Afterword
The Editors would first like to sincerely thank Nelson Ball for the opportunity to publish these poems. We are indebted to Nelson, not only because his work accords with what we strive to present to readers, but we as well attribute to him an aspect of our existence. As founder, editor, and publisher of Weed Flower Press he published forty books of Canadian, American, and British poetry between 1965-1974. Weed Flower is a model for Hamilton Arts & Letters / samizdat press.
HA&L is delighted that the release its first chapbook, A Rattle Of Spring Frogs by Nelson Ball, should be accompanied by an essay by R. Bruce Elder, who also selected the poems and wrote the foreword to the current volume. Thanks cannot express how enriched we are by our association with Mr. Elder.
We are indebted to Cheryl Smith and Bernadette Rule for their roles in helping us take advantage of the medium wherein HA&L exists in order to present another facet of Nelson Ball's poetry. Thank you.
Our thanks to Rick Stapleton and staff of The William Ready Division of Archives and Research Collections at McMaster University for generously providing reproductions of Barbara Caruso's artwork.
HA&L would like to acknowledge the generous support of the Ontario Arts Council, an agency of the Government of Ontario.
