It is fair to say that most of the attention paid to literature in Canada goes to the prose writers. And I understand why. Prose sells, so the attention is not as manufactured as, say, that Canada Council-underwritten profile on a poet from Alma. (I know there are poets in Alma. I just wanted to start with an A name so that I could go to a Z name, like Zealand. Both of these places are in New Brunswick. It’s okay if you didn’t know.)
If alarm bells ring in your mind right now, then good for you. Who CARES that anything like “attention” is paid to any kind of writing at all? Let’s celebrate it instead of complaining about the fact, etc. I agree.
