Exploring a “Parallel Universe”: New Brunswick’s Latino-Canadian Authors by Haydée Sainz Gimeno and Sophie M. Lavoie

In 2011, a remarkable little monograph saw the day. It was a bilingual anthology titled Los puentes del Río San Juan/Bridges over the Saint John River and was edited by two of Fredericton’s greatest poets, M. Travis Lane, well-known for her beautiful verses in English, and Nela Rio, less known in English-language literary circles because most of her poetry is written in Spanish. Besides Nela Rio, no other New Brunswick Latino-Canadian poet was included in the anthology while a number of local English-language poets—M. Travis Lane, Jo-Anne Elder, Lynn Davies and Joe Blades—were anthologized.
