Stephen Broomer


            Stephen Broomer is a filmmaker and film preservationist. He holds a BFA in Film and Video Production, an MA in Film Studies, and is presently engaged in writing his doctoral dissertation on difficult aesthetics and the fate of the Canadian avant-garde film. He has given public presentations of his film restoration work at the Art Gallery of Ontario, the Canadian Film Institute, and the Pleasure Dome (Toronto). His films have screened throughout Europe and North America, including engagements at the Toronto International Film Festival, the New York Film Festival, the Chicago Underground Film Festival, and the Alchemy Film Festival (Scotland). He is currently the Scholar-in-Residence at the Modern Literature and Culture Research Centre at Ryerson University.
